We asked this week’s ‘Who the F*** Are You?’ subject, iconic dresser Nick Wooster, to recommend the fundamental items that every man should have in his wardrobe. There is no-one else we would rather take sartorial notes from, and his advice is gold for us all.
1. A navy wool pea coat — a double-breasted classic piece, an icon in its own right. Nick recommends: PRADA or JIL SANDER.
2. A cashmere crew neck, in navy and in gray — whether super-luxe or wallet-friendly, a perennial go-to. Nick recommends: UNIQLO or PRADA.
3. The perfect white and blue cotton shirts — to compliment everything else on the list. Nick recommends: CHARVET or COMMES DES GARCONS.
4. Any trouser that fits immaculately and is not a pair of jeans — impeccable tailoring is everything, denim need not apply. Nick recommends: RTH, ENGINEERED GARMENTS, or DRIES VAN NOTEN.
5. The perfect t-shirts, in white, gray, black and navy — always an endless search, which stops here. Nick recommends: JAMES PERSE or SUNSPEL.
6. Classic leather brogues, in both black and brown — these will never go out of style. Nick recommends: TRICKERS or CHURCH’S.
7. An alligator belt with a plaque buckle, in both black and brown — old time chic indeed, and there are some great faux versions. Nick recommends: BROOKS BROTHERS, RALPH LAUREN, or SID MASHBURN.
